Our two specialist orthodontists have combined experience of nearly 50 years practicing orthodontics, and keep up to date with modern techniques.
Dr Russell Lovatt
Dr Russell Lovatt graduated as a dentist from the University of Otago. He completed his specialist degree in orthodontics from the University of Western Australia. He has practiced as an orthodontist in Christchurch for nearly 30 years and has a wealth of knowledge from these years of experience.
Dr Russell was the co-owner of Riccarton Orthodontics from 1999 to 2012. Following the earthquakes he established Christchurch Orthodontics in 2012.
Qualifications and memberships:
- Member of the New Zealand Association of Orthodontists (NZAO)
- Member of the New Zealand Dental Association (NZDA)
- Past treasurer of the NZAO
Dr Christine (Chrissy) Bailey
Dr Chrissy Bailey was born and bred in Christchurch. She studied dentistry at the University of Otago and obtained her Doctorate in Orthodontics from the University of Melbourne.
Dr Chrissy has practiced at Christchurch Orthodontics since 2015. She also works at the Christchurch Hospital, working on challenging cases with a team of other health-care professionals. She has also done a lot of locum work to support other female orthodontists as they start their families.
Chrissy gets a great deal of satisfaction when she reflects on the patients she has treated, and the smiles she has helped create. She remembers the difference Orthodontic treatment made to her as a teenager, and enjoys coming to work knowing that she'll have the same positive impact on her patients.

- Canterbury Branch president of the New Zealand Dental Association (NZDA) (2019-2020)
- Long-standing member of NZAO's ERDG (Education and Research Development Group), supporting postgraduate orthodontic resaerch, distributing educational grants, and organising ongoing educational opportunities for NZAO members
